Camp Shocco for the Deaf

Thank you for registering for camp! We are sure that this will be a wonderful week for you. Come prepared to learn a lot about the Bible, the Lord, yourself, and to have a lot of fun. Everyone on staff is looking forward to you being there at camp.

 

You will need to ask your parents/guardians to fill out the medical/release forms and bring them with you. You need to arrive at Shocco between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29th. We will have dinner and orientation starting at 5:30 p.m., and all parents are encouraged to join us. You will meet your counselors for the week, get settled, and then get ready for an exciting week!

 

Your parents need to pick you up NO LATER THAN 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5th .

 

THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO CAMP:

 

·                    Casual/sport clothes, pajamas

·                    Enough underwear for each day

·                    Twin sheets and Blanket (or sleeping bag)

·                    Pillow

·                    Towels for bathing

·                    washrags

·                    Toothpaste and toothbrush

·                    Light jacket for cool evenings

·                    Money for canteen ($15 to $20)

·                    Comfortable shoes and socks

·                    Swimsuit and towels

·                    Personal cosmetics

·                    Bible

·                    Your best behavior

·                    Be ready to have a great time!

 

THINGS THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING TO CAMP:

 

·                    GameBoy or any other technology games!

Purpose:  to provide a Christian camping experience for deaf children and youth of Alabama which will have a balanced program of spiritual, physical, intellectual, and social development.

 

Objectives:

 

1.      Spiritual - to assist each camper to develop spiritually in their relationship with God while recognizing his or her individual stage of emotional and spiritual maturity.

 

2.       Physical - to involve each camper in challenging and physically stimulating activities appropriate to his or her age and physical abilities.

 

3.     Social - to provide opportunities for each camper to develop social skills as he or she relates to other campers and to the camp staff.

 

4.        Intellectual - to provide learning experiences which will assist each camper in the growth of knowledge and use of thinking skills in a way that is appropriate for his or her age and mental maturity.
